Panamanian Jazzman DANILO PEREZ started a Jazz Festival in Panama 4 years ago. It has been a huge success, and its fourth version is getting near.
Between January 14 and 19, Panama City will enjoy the Jazz of NNENA FREELAN, BILLY COBHAM, CARLOS GARNETT, BANDA TRIBUTO A CHILE, DANILO PEREZ himself, among many other gifted musicians, Music students will also receive Classes from Masters in the Art. For more details you can access the website: www.panamajazzfestival.com I am sharing with you all my experience of PANAMA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2006: "God bless you JAZZ!!! Because Panama´s youth today has traded T.V. Football (soccer for U.S.A. people) for JAZZ this Saturday evening. At Panama City`s Old Quarter, a crowd of people, Panamanians and from all over the world, was enjoying Great Jazz. First RANDY WESTON, a legendary Piano Man almost 80 years old, won the crowd`s applause with African and Ethnic sounds. It was free, no cost, I saw old friends of mine and new ones refreshing themselves with drinks, also smoking and laughing and everyone seemed to be flying through a Jazz Astroworld of Sounds. Then Maestro VITIN PAZ enjoyed the crowd with Samba and Caribbean Sounds as well as with his virtuoso trumpet, altogether with the University of Panama Big Band. At last arrived DANILO "Cholo" PEREZ with the New England Conservatory, guys from the "Big Band" and of course VITIN PAZ joined, playing typical Panamanian sounds in a nearly 20 minutes Jam. We were all so excited, a group of writers, photographers, musicians, and people who appreciate Jazz. For some odd reason, we ended talking about Heavy Metal with metal guitar players who also gathered at the Music Fest and Feast. All the merry bunch of friends, we headed to a place called "LA CASONA", a great spot for Poetry Recitals, Independent Cinema and all sorts of intellectual and artistic activities. A band was playing great Jams, based on rock songs, for instance they made a Jazz Jam out of "Bed`s Too Big without you" (POLICE). I don`t know why they reminded me of RACER X and PAUL GILBERT A great saturday... VIVE LA MUSIQUE!." So everyone is invited the PANAMA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2007!
