So the water still rises then?
Up the walls, all through the autumn,
splashes into coastline and bridges.
And you don't wish to float away?
Trot down the cellar stairs
and excavate that huge old suitcase.
All you once needed
for a deep dive is there.
On top that rubber suit,
and two air cylinders.
Underneath though, you'll detect
lagoons, coral reefs, undersea volcanoes
and those good old gills
from time beyond memory.
You'll just have to put them on
to feel that nice and tight fit.
Seconds before you pry the window open
a sound reaches your ears;
the soft caress of waves
against the facade.
And you find yourself
going with the flow.
