(Article by Diana Varbanescu)

In the beginning of August we would like to invite you to meet poet Marian Stan!

Place: The Kensington Bar & Kitchen, Russel Gardens, Kensington, W14 8EZ, London

Date: Sunday, 2nd of August 2009

Guests: poet Marian Stan, critic Felix Nicolau

Time: 4 pm

*Free entry!

Poet Marian Stan has recently launched in Bucharest his first poetry novel:

Children see us

The book was published by Curtea Veche and was one of the launches that captured the attention of many critics due to its daring approach. The characters of his poetry are pre-school children discovering with gentleness and humour the adult world, a world full of the unpredictable, a world which they frequently attack in a full on manner.

Critic Felix Nicolau, present at the launch, is known to have said:

‘Marian Stan is a subtle author. He won the bet once won by Creanga: is capable of addressing to children as well as adults. He is transposing himself into the child, miming the infantile, while processing parents and adults in general. Marian sees adults as failed children and I believe that all of us reading his book could ask ourselves: where are we now, how debilitated and mentally retarded are we.

Talking about the same book, poet Robert Serban has also said:

‘Children see us’ is one of the books I happily read to my daughter who has recently passed 2 years of age. And she sits, listens and repeats in her own tongue some of the verses. What other tokens of evidence you need to prove she likes it? And this is because Marian Stan is successfully writing from under the skin of a child (mine, yours, his) as well as being credible as a poet.’

If you would like to participate to this event please book a place in advance by emailing [email protected].

Hope to see you soon!
