Cracked, grimy, brick building all run down and dirty
Out the door steps a woman all tired and worried
An appearance like her building she's aged to early
She's got a lot on her mind and it shows in her face
Divots under her eyes, like cracks in a vase
She looks like she was once beautiful but fell from grace
Like a silhouette in the clouds that tripped on a shoe lace
She's got skeletons in her closet and a chip on her shoulder
As people walk passed her demeanor grows colder
A prisoner to herself a victim to her scars
She views the passing world behind unseen bars
The monkey on her back makes her posture slump
Storing her happiness inside of a dusty trunk
She hides behind a smile, you can't tell at a glance
She hides behind it well, what a pearly white mask
As her disguise crumbles she looks dead in a flash
I see a beer bottle laying in the street in pieces
She has secrets on her lips and a soul full of creases
Like a battery with a charger that has no releases
Her misery and acceptance get walked on different leashes

(Chorus)
Cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
Always acting shaky when a man is in the room
When you coming home dad? She hopes never again
Sleeping with the doors locked so he can't get in

As she locks the door she catches a flashback
She sees a broken beer bottle that brings her passed back
The pain, the memories, what happened she can't shake it
She was just a little girl, years later can't take it
Looking at the scars where Dad use to put his cigarettes out
Eyes welling up just trying to figure this out
Fear and anxiety around men is all she can feel
The tattoos she put on her scars still don't heal..
The wounds, the tears, the gashes and the scrapes
Even during her testimony couldn't mention rape
She was seven years old, what could you have been thinking?
Bottle after bottle don't dare blame it on your drinking
You raised a scared woman who jumps when the floor cracks
A life full of locked doors and no welcome doormats
Do you know the hatred, the anger and the pain?
The self-consciousness that bubbles in her veins?
She yelled and screamed, but still you didn't stop
No an alcoholic to the last drop like her pop
Little girl always blue, don't trust that man in the moon
She walks around panicked with a head full of gloom

(Chorus)
Cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
Always acting shaky when a man is in the room
When you coming home dad? She hopes never again
Sleeping with the doors locked so he can't get in
