Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
City of peace, prayer, and prophets! The sun lighten you, The clouds are shading you, The olive-trees are stretching their branches With generosity over you, And God bestowed His mercy on you. Citadel-city, with strong walls, Nor time, nor wars could destroy you. Between those walls your heart beats, Your soul respires And your blood flows To wash the wounds of mankind. Your gates are opened only to believers, Those who are looking for salvation, Those who bend their head with piety To ask forgiveness from their Lord. When I entered you I felt I am home. I stepped carefully over the prophets traces! I felt in you that time is eternal! Buildings and street with scent of history, Which testify the Jesus’s sufferance, Churches and mosques, Calling for prayer for hundreds of years, Voices and sounds of belfries, Those join in a hymn of mankind, A hymn of peace, The hymn of Jerusalem.
