Once upon a time
A drunken vessel Sailed in the mystical universe Drawing the world as a rose He wandered around the earth Searching for the sun Land of dreams Gleams of metaphor And new icons of poems Chanting songs Intoxicating souls Bewitching dreamers And making lovers merry A witch ruined his existence He depicted life with the body of a woman And the head of serpent Poison gushing from her breast Touched by a curse Haunting him Thus language abandoned him Becoming addicted to loneliness And expatriation Wandering like a lunatic He lived and died as a stranger In the midst of his grief and sorrow He versified these verses Thousands of autumns have passed me by Still I search for an amulet That will save me from a woman's curse Desisting not to leave me Afraid of being cursed again I vowed Never to come near a woman Out of cold loneliness I built Towers for my solitude.. And in the land of dream Planted my verses Squeezing them out of my spirit.. Lighting my candle Still I lived in darkness Reading the books of dead And the flowers of evil I remained alone Mourning humanity Never attached to life The hand of death reached for me Surrounded by fire My harp in the river Hopelessly I tried to gather my shattered soul O France! O France! Why have you forsaken your son? Soldiers won't sing of your glory nor will they water your roses only by poesy and tears of joy Copyright © Munir Mezyed
