Winter twilight

The sun retires with a big orange yawn,
making the moon smile round and fawn
as once again he slowly leaves
his bed behind the naked trees,
their bare arms exposed to the night’s frozen breath…
empty, after the birds have left,
motionless the wind, it’s too cold to blow,
the sky is blue, the clouds won’t show
their faces anymore, up high and far
appears the first of many stars,
like diamonds in the night’s mighty crown
As darkness is creeping on
with heavy steps, finally the day
must leave and as I make my way
to the station, his sad goodbye
echoes in my heart like your last painful “why?”

Sybille (Sydney) Krivenko 2007
