flash-back with a gipsy woman

I remember the old carrousel
From this old mining town
And the gipsy woman that gave herself to me
Only because I was down

I remember still very well the feel
Of her invisible body of steel
She said my breast’s for my kid
My lip’s for my man
All these cost money
But the rest is now free for you, honey-bonny

Get your coat, get your pants, get your wallet
Fly after me like a bee
Be quick, be smooth, be purple, or else …
One, two, three
Dirty Mahoney’s gonna get thee

So I ran and I swam and I flew
Like no man before ever knew

He didn’t get me, he got her instead
As she lied ignorantly on her bed

Now there’s evening in the primitive town
And violet birds fly up and down

All quiet and dizzy… the church bell
Coppery-red and the tall livid saints
And no people able to spell
“Dirty Mahoney” when the sunlight faints
